Understanding site content structure and elements
There are 3 primary elements that can be used to organise site content:
- Pages
- Blocks
- Items
Pages
The primary foundation of the site is comprised of pages, each having a unique URL that allow access. A page can contain other pages (children), blocks and items.
Each page can have custom formatted content (text and images) much like a document.
The final layout of a given page is determined by the display template (if any) specified in the page settings.
Blocks
Each block can exist in 1 or more pages and consist of a limited amount of custom formatted text and images and optional items.
As with pages, blocks can have a display template that controls the layout and behaviour of the block content.
Items
Items can belong to any number of blocks or pages and are collections of attributes (text, images, prices, dates, links etc.) that have specific formatting inherited from their context in the site structure (the page or block that they belong to).
New items are created by choosing one of the available item templates (predefined collections of attributes) that describes a particular type of item. These may be simple content elements used for presenting text and images in a structured way or data such as news and events or products for sale or locations on a map.
